Buy Michigan Now Festival

This weekend in downtown Northville, we celebrate the BuyMichigan Now Festival highlighting Michigan-based businesses and products, not to mention artists.  All the fun is downtown Fri., Aug. 3 to Sun., Aug. 5, 2012. As you know, the Dancing Eye Gallery features many local artists in our store, so come in to see what's new! We will be open Friday night until 8 p.m.

Don't forget to vote "yes" on Tues., Aug. 7 for your local art authority proposal. On this day, we have a rare privilege of voting on the importance of preserving a cultural treasure--the DIA. For more information click on artisforeveryone.org.

Eeewwwww! Bugs!

If bugs can be cute and artistic and colorful, then Michigan artist Marlene Galperin has captured another side of what we think about bugs.

Marlene's newest creations can hang on a wall or "crawl" on a table. They are about 13"-16" in length and have maybe the most benevolent "faces" of any bug I've ever seen!

Come in and give a bug a home! Summer is just around the corner!

Victorian Festival Time!

Finally! Northville's annual Victorian Festival is this weekend, September 16-18! Kicking off with a parade on Friday at 6:30 p.m., the weekend will be abuzz with entertainment, crafters and a Victorian clothing sale, just to list a few things for adults. For kids, farm animals, rides, games and many more fun things will be happening.

It wouldn't be Victorian Festival without a visit to the Dancing Eye Gallery! Come in and check out our art, mainly from Michigan artists -- some new, some true blue.

For hours of the festival and for more specific information about what and where, check out the Northville Chamber of Commerce.

Information on the photos in this post are, in order:

Father's Day is Sunday June 19th

We have the best gift for Dad for Father's Day! How about: "1 Amazing Mug?" This mug and its very cool reusable tin is a geography lesson of Michigan as well as the United States. Dad can test his knowledge while he is drinking his coffee. And when he's drunk that last drop, well, there is a little surprise on the bottom of the mug! Visit the Gallery to see our other Michigan products. We are now open every Friday night until 8 p.m.

P.S. The mug makes a great grad gift too!

Hurry in to the Gallery to see new ceramics by one of our long-time local artists, Marlene Galperin! Just this morning she brought us a great selection of bowls, smaller vases, sushi trays (other uses optional!)

Her pieces have some beautiful glazes and many are insect- and reptile-themed so would be perfect for Father's Day gifting.

These creative pieces are moderately priced from $20-$48.

Spotlight on Pewabic Pottery

When someone mentions artisan tile in Michigan it's hard not to mention Pewabic Pottery in the same breath. Pewabic is by far the best known maker of handmade tile and pottery pieces in the area. Their bold blue and green glazes and unique arts and crafts style make them a favorite amongst collectors. They've been producing tile from their studio in Detroit since 1903 and are still going strong today.

Pewabic Studio

A brief history of the studio from Pewabic Pottery:
"Founded in 1903 by Mary Chase Perry Stratton and Horace J. Caulkins, Pewabic Pottery is a studio for the design and production of architectural tile and vessels and a center for the advancement of the ceramic arts. Stratton and Caulkins' work at Pewabic and their involvement with the Society for Arts and Crafts, Cranbrook Academy of Art and the Detroit Instuiitute of Arts made substantial contribution to the Arts and Crafts movement in Detroit. Pewabic has earned a national reputation for its tile commissions and unique glazes particularly the iridescent formulas - which can be seen in homes and institutions throughout the country. Important early installations include the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington D.C.; Christ Church Cranbrook; and the Guardian Building, Holy Redeemer Church and St. Paul's Cathedral in Detroit. Pewabic is also represented in many museums and private collections."

Pewabic Sampler

The Dancing Eye gallery is proud to carry a tile and pottery line with such a rich history. We currently stock Pewabic's tile line, vases and mugs. We can also happily order anything for you out of their current catalog in a variety of Pewabic glazes.
